Tom has been enjoying quite a bit of macro photography recently – with spiders, weevils, beetles, and other insects a favourite subject.

I really love looking at these images – and the close attention to creaturely structure they enable.

Wings suddenly look like stained glass . . .

. . . what’s going on with those antenna?

. . . I’ve never seen joints like those before . . .

. . . nor eyes like those . . .

. . . nor a face like that!

nature is wonderful!
come on, let’s crawl . . .

. . . gotta crawl . . .

. . . gotta crawl . . .

To the ugly bug ball!

and a happy time we’ll have there . . .

one and all!

You may be interested in an event at the British Library which is called ‘Insects: small but perfectly formed’. A close up look into the miraculous world of insects with Martha Kearney, George McGavin, Levon Biss and Karen Wimhurst. I was at the library earlier this week and saw some of Levon Boss’s amazing macro-photos of insects which are on a very large scale. The event is this evening at 7pm, online or in person.
I totally agree with you Laura. God’s creations amaze!
The Ugly Bug Ball and Burl Ives have been revisited a few times this week…gotta crawl, gotta crawl has now been stuck in my head for several days!
beautiful pictures and a lovely little film, thank you Kate & Tom
Amazing photos…..and you never know what you will find here on Kate’s page…even a Disney cartoon ! Clever and cute.
Brilliant photo’s ! I really like looking at Tom’s photo’s.I especially like the landscapes. Childhood memories of Ugly Bug ball being played on Saturday mornings radio request programme with ” Uncle Mac”.
Truly fascinating! Wonderful photos Tom (the joy of a macro lens and lots of patience!)
What an amazing world God has made! I love to look at the wings of bugs in close up. They really do look like stained glass, or delicate lace.
The complexity of these tiny things is just amazing.
I don’t think that God had much to do with it , more like nature doing it’s own thing. But wonderful photos,as usual, from Tom.
Any pattern/color inspiration here? I think so!
WOW.. BIG TIME… INCREDIBLE PHOTOS
I love, love, love macro-photography of the buglets and mini-beasts!! I keep looking for a calendar (or some other affordable way) to have these astonishing images in my life. Thank you for sharing these exquisite photos!! (I would add six more exclamation points, but then you’d just think I lost all control)
What a fun text!!! Insects can be fascinating to look at! Thanks for sharing!
I am sure they are wonderful photos that lots of readers love, but sadly I couldn’t bear to look at them. Eek! Gave me the heebie-jeebies. 🤣🤣
I have to agree with you. I’m glad to hear that Kate is fascinated by pictures of these things, but honestly, blown up images of grossly ugly insects is the last thing I want to look at. Looking at these images is for me very off-putting, I can’t fathom what is remotely attractive about them, but for those of you who can…..well, knock yourselves out!
HAHA what a delightful way to start the day. And those photos……need names for those critters!! Thank you.
The first spider looks like she’s rocking some knitwear! And the moth does too. Are you going to be taking inspiration?
Aww, beautiful bugs!
So fascinating close up!
These are wonderful photos! I have also been exploring bugs, butterflies and curious plants in Shenandoah. Thank you so much for sharing!
These bugs are all wonderful. I have a very rural garden so nature fascinates me. Thanks Tom for the great close-ups
Thank you for sharing these lovely bug pictures! I can observe critters like this for hours, and marvel at their beauty.
What a FUN way to start this summer morning! Thanks! :)
What a joyful cartoon and brilliant photos that started my day! Thanks, Kate and Tom!
Just wonderful! One of my grandsons fell in love with a millipede last week. He went around saying,”I love you Millipede!” I love these beautiful pictures of beautiful bugs. Thank you for sharing them with us!
What a treat! And to see The Ugly Bug Ball again – must show that to my grandsons 🤗❤️
Thank you! Love bugs! And the Ugly Bug Ball brought a chuckle on the grey morning, here in New England.
Wonderful photos! Thank you for sharing.
